While coffee may make you feel more awake and alert, it has its negative consequences:
Caffeine has an average half-life of 7 hours, which means that if you have a cup of coffee at 7:30 p.m., by 1:30 a.m., 50% of that caffeine will still be active and circulating throughout your brain.
In other words, by 1:30 a.m., your brain will still be loaded with caffeine pumping through it.

No wonder you can’t sleep well!

If you are sensitive to caffeine (a slow metabolizer), it may take 12+ hours before the caffeine leaves your body.
But not just coffee, caffeine is also in certain teas, energy drinks, and food products, such as dark chocolate and ice cream – all “late night snacks” that keep you up at night.

One of the scariest products are common weight-loss pills and pain relievers that contain caffeine – what seems to be
something harmless to help you lose weight or relieve pain might be turning you into a sleepless insomniac.

While caffeine can help you be more alert for a few hours, you can expect to have an energy crash shortly after.
